⚠️ Do Not Spam the "Request Review" Button

If you request a review without fixing the underlying issue, Google will initiate a "Cool Down Period," locking you out for 7-14 days. Audit first, appeal second.

In 2026, Google's "Trust Algorithm" is stricter than ever. It doesn't just scan your product feed; it crawls your entire website, looking for signs of a legitimate business. If your footer is missing a phone number, or your return policy is vague, you get suspended for "Misrepresentation."

Select your error message to see the likely root cause.

Cause: Lack of Trust Signals

Google thinks you might be a scam or dropshipper.

  • ❌ Missing physical address in footer.
  • ❌ Generic "Gmail" address instead of business email.
  • ❌ Return policy is copy-pasted or vague.
  • ❌ Reviews look fake or imported.

1. Fixing "Misrepresentation" (The #1 Killer)

This is the catch-all error for "We don't trust you." To fix it, you must prove you are a real business with real inventory.

The Footer & Contact Audit

Your footer must be visible on every page and include:

  • Physical Address: Must match your Google Business Profile. Do not use a P.O. Box.
  • Phone Number: Must be active and answerable during business hours.
  • Professional Email: `support@domain.com`, NOT `domain@gmail.com`.

2. The "Policy Page" Trap

Using a generated template from Shopify is dangerous. Google scans these for generic text.

Shipping Policy Requirements:
• Processing time (e.g., 1-2 days).
• Transit time (e.g., 3-5 days).
• Shipping costs (Must match your Feed settings exactly).
• Couriers used (FedEx, UPS, DHL).

Return Policy Requirements:
• Return window (e.g., 30 days).
• Who pays for return shipping? (Customer or You).
• Restocking fees (if any).
• How to initiate a return (Email? Portal?).

3. Data Mismatch (Feed vs. Landing Page)

Googlebot crawls your product page to verify the data in your feed. If they don't match, you get suspended for "Unreliable claims."

Price Mismatch

Feed: $19.99
Page: $24.99 (after a price hike)
Fix: Use automatic feed updates or Content API.

Availability Mismatch

Feed: In Stock
Page: Out of Stock (or variant OOS)
Fix: Exclude OOS variants from your feed.

4. Image Violations (Overlays)

Google Shopping requires clean product images on a white background.

Automatic Disapproval Trigger:
❌ Watermarks ("Copyright 2026")
❌ Promotional Text ("Sale", "Best Seller")
❌ Borders or Logos

Use the "Image Improvements" tool inside Merchant Center to automatically remove simple overlays, or re-upload clean images. Learn more in our Product Feed Attributes Guide.

5. GTIN & Identifier Issues

If you sell branded goods (Nike, Samsung), you MUST provide a valid GTIN (UPC/EAN). If you make up a fake number, Google will suspend the product or account.

For Custom/Handmade Products:
Set identifier_exists to no (or FALSE). Do not leave the GTIN field blank if you haven't set this flag, or Google will assume you just forgot it.

6. The "Plan of Action" Appeal Letter

When you click "Request Review," there is often a box for comments. Use it. A human *might* read this.

// Copy this template

"Dear Google Merchant Center Team,

We have conducted a full audit of our account (ID: [Your ID]) regarding the [Suspension Reason] suspension.

Actions Taken:
1. Verified accurate physical address and phone number in the footer.
2. Updated Shipping & Return policies to match checkout reality.
3. Removed all products with potential image overlays.
4. Verified that feed prices match landing page prices via microdata.

We are a legitimate business located in [City, Country]. Attached is our business license proof (if option available). Please review our account for reinstatement.

Thank you."

Conclusion

GMC suspensions are stressful, but they are usually logical. Google wants to protect its users from bad shopping experiences. By aligning your site with their "Trust Signals," you not only get unsuspended, but you also improve your conversion rate.

Once fixed, focus on scaling with Performance Max campaigns.
